Heather Sacks, DVMDr. Heather Sacks is Chief of Staff at Nickel City Animal Hospital. She attained her undergraduate degree from Tufts University with a bachelor's degree in English Literature before attending Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Sacks earned a DVM degree in 2003, and moved to Buffalo, New York to begin her career as a small animal and exotic veterinarian.

Prior to Cornell, Dr. Sacks worked as a veterinary technician at Jardin Gaia, a wildlife rehabilitation and education center in Costa Rica; Angell Animal Medical Center in Boston; and at Animal Rescue League of Boston. After graduation from veterinary school, she moved to Buffalo and began practice at a prestigious small animal referral hospital.

She co-founded City Creatures Animal Hospital in 2007 before opening Nickel City Animal Hospital in 2012. In the same year, Dr. Sacks also received Buffalo Business First's 40 under 40 award for her community outreach as a veterinarian and Nickel City Animal Hospital was awarded Best Vet Hospital by Buffalo Spree Magazine.

Dr. Sacks has a special interest in Eastern veterinary medicine. She completed an acupuncture certification at the Chi Institute in Florida and then went on to pursue Chinese Herbal training and, most recently, Food Therapy certification. By using a blend of Eastern and Western medicine in her approach to all her patients, Dr. Sacks is able to devise a treatment plan that is the least invasive and most beneficial for each pet.

In addition to veterinary acupuncture and herbal medicine, her medical interests include dentistry, ultrasound, chemotherapy as well as general medicine and surgery.

Currently, Dr. Sacks splits her time between Nickel City Animal Hospital and Hingham Animal Clinic in Massachusetts. She is the proud mother of two boys and always too many dogs and a cat. When she is not at one of the two hospitals, you can find her doing yoga, exercising with her family, or spending time cooking and enjoying family and friends.
